Project Description

Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility | Interior Alteration | Multi-phase Construction

Apotex Packaging Line Upgrades involved the phased installation of three new pharmaceutical packaging lines within an operational GMP manufacturing facility. Working as the Prime Consultant, WBA Architects & Engineers coordinated architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines while maintaining uninterrupted production.

My role focused on multidisciplinary drawing coordination, technical documentation, consultant coordination, and construction support from permit through as-built delivery.

01 | PHASED FACILITY UPGRADE

Three packaging lines (D, E & Q) were upgraded sequentially within an active pharmaceutical facility, allowing construction to proceed while maintaining uninterrupted manufacturing operations.

02 | MULTIDISCIPLINARY COORDINATION

Coordinated architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings through multiple equipment revisions, ensuring accurate integration and clash-free documentation.

03 | GMP & CLEANROOM DESIGN

Designed and coordinated GMP-compliant cleanroom upgrades, including new personnel and material airlocks serving both primary and secondary packaging areas.

04 | TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION

Produced permit, tender, IFC, and as-built documentation while optimizing heavy equipment CAD models for coordination, constructability, and office standards.

PHASE 1 - Packaging Line D Installation

Line D marked the first phase of the packaging line modernization program, establishing the coordination strategy for subsequent phases. The scope included integrating new packaging equipment, GMP-compliant cleanroom modifications, and new personnel and material airlocks while maintaining existing operations throughout construction.

PHASE 2 - Packaging Line E Installation

Building upon the established workflow, Line E introduced revised equipment layouts and continued phased construction within the active facility. The project required continuous multidisciplinary coordination, frequent equipment model updates, and refinement of architectural documentation to accommodate evolving mechanical requirements.

PHASE 3 - Packaging Line Q Installation

Line Q completed the final phase of the packaging line upgrades, incorporating lessons learned from previous installations. The scope emphasized coordination accuracy, constructability, and final documentation while supporting seamless integration of the new production line into the existing GMP manufacturing environment.
